How Flying Skydivers Sharpened Patrick’s Skills for Private Aviation
Patrick Wright’s journey with Flight Providers began in 2010 and spanned over five years, during which he logged more than 1,000 hours as a jump pilot. Reflecting on his time at the drop zone, Patrick speaks of circles, camaraderie, and career-defining lessons.
Finding the Joy in the Journey
What Patrick misses most about flying jumpers is the camaraderie—being part of a community of thrill-seekers and aviation enthusiasts. “It was a lot of circles, up & down, and racking up the hours,” he shared, but those hours weren’t just about the numbers—they were about refining his craft.
Patrick treated every landing as an opportunity to perfect his skills. “I would simulate an emergency landing, perfecting my own energy management. The best way to avoid an accident is to be prepared for one.”
Flying High in Private Aviation
Today, Patrick flies a Cessna Citation V for a private family, a role that demands precision, professionalism, and top-tier flying skills—traits he attributes to his time at Flight Providers.
“Flying jumpers makes you a good ‘stick & rudder’ pilot,” Patrick explained. The hands-on flying and focus on energy management prepared him for the complexities of private aviation.
Advice for Aspiring Pilots
Patrick’s advice? Always make a great first impression. “Shake hands and kiss babies, or vice versa,” he joked. But on a serious note, he emphasizes professionalism: “Fly professional, be professional, and dress professional.”
